What is World Environment Day?

World Environment Day 2026 is the United Nations' flagship annual observance for environmental awareness and action, held every year on June 5. The United Nations General Assembly designated June 5 as World Environment Day, and the first celebration was held in 1973 under the theme "Only One Earth" — a slogan that laid the foundation for a worldwide environmental movement.
